Established in 1998, ALSA LC UGM is now one of the thirteen local chapter of ALSA Indonesia. The pioneering of ALSA LC UGM itself was begun in 1992. In the 1993, Universitas Gadjah Mada attended the National Conference in UGM, Yogyakarta. This was also attended by another member of ALSA Indonesia, which are Universitas Airlangga, Universitas Indonesia, Universities Padjajaran, and the rest of local chapters. Afie Henry, Pinky Brotodiningrat, Boy Gemino (batch 1991) and Joni Getamala (batch 1991) initiated the establishment of ALSA LC UGM. For the success of the event, many batches and human resources were included. Finally, in this year, the ALSA LC Universities Gadjah Mada was officially established. The first Director was Pinky Brotodiningrat, and the Manager of Public Relations was Afie Henry.
From times to times, ALSA LC UGM has successfully proven its existence and often sent delegates for national and international competitions, including the English Debating Competition which resulted to first winner, namely Erlangga Gaffar (batch 1993). Under the era of Alexander Honsus (former Director) in 2008, ALSA LC UGM received the status as the Semi Autonomous Organ of Faculty of Law, Universitas Gadjah Mada.
